Days of Future Past

I feel like I've done a lot of stuff about Superman, about the Justice League, about DC comics. I can't help it. I am bias towards DC comics. It's also the summer for DC. Its a lull between the Avengers and the next chapter of the Phase 2 Avengers. So yeah I'm leaning more towards DC these days.

That being said, I saw this today.

I don't know if this is real or not, if this is the actual cover for the movie or if this is just fan work.

Regardless, X-men: Days of Future Past is the new X-men movie coming out in May of 2014. It is the sequel to BOTH X-men 3: Last Stand, and X-men: First Class. First Class is one of my favorite Superhero films and Last Stand is... well its not one of my favorites.

The film is going to be based (with a couple tweaks) on the comic of the same name. The basic premise of the comic is that there is an alternate future where the X-men are unable to save Senator Robert Kelly and the Sentinels control the world and mutants are in internment camps. From the casting, it looks like there's going to be a team up of characters from both X-men Last Stand and First Class.

This is going to be ridiculous! Anna Pacquin, Halle Berry, Sir Ian McKellan, Ellen Paige, the guy who played Iceman, Patrick Stewart, a lot of them are going to be in it! Plus most if not all of the cast of First Class, plus Peter Dinklage and that guy from American Horror story to play Quicksilver (I'll talk about that in a second)

This cast is stacked and its going to be awesome. Hopefully this movie along with Thor and Captain America sequels, will hold me over till the next Man of Steel and the Avenger 2.

This is a very cool idea for the movie, the only think I can say about it is it is kind of strange to have an X-men movie announced before The Wolverine comes out. Any suspense we had about Wolverine in this new adventure where he loses his powers are totally gone. We don't know if he'll stay mortal but we know he'll survive. It also puts doubts on the theory I had about Wolverine joining the Avengers. It kind of makes me wonder if these two movies will be connected. I swear, if they are not I will be a little bit angry and once again, ask for my money back.

I am not excited for The Wolverine... at all

But then we get to the character of Quicksilver. He will be played by Evan Peters in this movie and in the comics he is the son of Magneto. Now I'm wondering how they'll do this. I just have to ask, if they're going with the idea that he's Magneto's son, which Magneto is his father, Michael Fassbender or Ian Mckellen. Both cases it seems kind of odd, Fassbender is too young to be the father of an older actor like Evan Peters and Ian Mckellen is too old to be Evan Peters father. The age disparity is very odd to me. But that's probably one of the things they'll tweak.

But the funny part is the fact that Quicksilver is going to be in this movie and Avengers 2. Joss Whedon has made several statements that Quicksilver will be in the Avengers 2. Now I don't know anything about Quicksilver, but I do know that he was in the Avengers at one point and he is the son of Magneto. That puts him in both worlds and puts both Fox and Disney in difficult situations. Fox owns a certain part of Quicksilver's history and Disney owns the other part. Avengers Quicksilver cannot mention anything about the X-men, vice versa for X-men towards the Avengers.

It's just going to be an awkward situation and frankly its going to make both studios look silly that they can't agree on this BS. I've made this statement before but I want to have these two elements come together. Quicksilver may be the start of the Marvel world's clashing and provide problems for Marvel they had all but ignored before. We're going to have two actors playing this character and if these studios ever get together, its just going to be awkward. Its studio pettiness and it needs to stop. I'm still a DC fan to the core but that doesn't mean I want Marvel to fail.

Stop being petty, make a deal, give the fans what they want and lets have these universes collide.

On a brighter note. Did I mention Peter Dinklage is going to be in this movie... cause that's awesome. I love Game of Thrones, I love Tyrion, and I love Peter Drunklage... but that video is no longer available... So I'll give you this instead, and let this be a message to both youtube for taking copyrighted videos off, and Fox and Marvel for not getting together and making these worlds collide.

Overall I'm very excited for X-men Days of Future Past. The one thing I didn't mention was that Bryan Singer was taking over again. Now I loved First Class, and Matthew Vaughn did that. Bryan Singer co-wrote the screenplay so I guess not all the credit is void of Singer but he's so hit or miss with me. I like the X-men movies but they're not on the top of my superhero lists. Superman Returns was better than people say it was in my books but it wasn't the Superman I wanted. Overall Singer is just not quite the Superhero director I love. We'll see if he does Days of Future Past correctly. On the bright side, Vaughn is producing it.

I'm excited for the movie, are you? Let me know what superhero movie you're excited for in the future.
